GATHERING LIGHT CD

Gathering Light is Lee Underwood's third solo recording, and his final musical offering.

Over the years, he has played guitar, notably with the late singer and songwriter Tim Buckley, and then on his own solo acoustic guitar cassette, California Sigh, produced by noted synthesist Steve Roach. In November 2003 Underwood recorded Phantom Light, his first solo piano CD, which received high praise from its listeners. ln late 2008, he recorded Gathering Light, almost entirely improvised on the studioís Yamaha grand piano.

Gathering Light's music is not rooted in the values of excitement, novelty, or hysteria. It is arhythmically gentle and free-flowing, following the luminous contours of Underwood's spiraling in-the-moment consciousness. Its melodic lyricism is sensual and sparkling, sonically intimate, emotionally uplifting, and spiritually energizing. The colorful cover was created by the well-known artist, photographer, and graphic designer Jon Bock.

"I feel proud of Gathering Light,"Underwood said. "The music is daring, even evolutionary, because it transcends modernity's tumult and leads us into the expansive domain of inner peacefulness, strength, courage, hope and unbounded love. There is brightness and tenderness in its melodies, without sentimentality. Over the course of 56 minutes, Gathering Light touches the heart and awakens the mind to its own capacity for selfless compassion.

"This final CD is something I will pass on to those who follow me. My journey has led out of darkness and confusion, into the light of radiant beauty. I am still gathering light, and will gather light as long as I live, because the psycho-spiritual journey at every stage unfolds into ever-greater compassion and ever-wider embrace. Music is forever, beauty is forever, light is forever, and so is the luminous spirit energizing all that exists."

Publisher's Description:

Celebrating the personal and musical legacy of Tim Buckley, Blue Melody tells the untold story of an exceptionally gifted and charismatic singer-songwriter rebel of the 1960s.

The vivid narrative depicts Buckley's panoramic evolution across folk, folk-rock, jazz, avant-garde, and funk-rock, highlighting his refusal to be defined by critical or commercial success.
